Brunswick is a London-headquartered strategic and financial communications firm, and its Gulf operation sits in a different category from the network PR shops. The Dubai office, in DIFC, opened in 2007 under Rupert Young, who continues to lead the wider Gulf practice; an Abu Dhabi office followed, with Heather Salmond appointed to head it in 2018. Jeehan Balfaqaih is partner and Dubai office head.

The work skews to high-end advisory: capital markets transactions, sovereign and quasi-sovereign mandates, M&A communications, board-level reputation issues, and the kinds of crises that get advised from a partner's office rather than a SWAT team. Brunswick has historically respected client confidentiality more tightly than the PR networks, so the public client list is short by design — what gets named is what the client has chosen to name.

The Gulf is among the most active markets for the firm's positioning. The build-out of DIFC's financial centre, the IPO pipeline out of Saudi Arabia, the consolidation of UAE sovereign wealth funds, and the steady flow of cross-border transactions all generate work that lands closer to Brunswick than to a traditional PR firm. The Abu Dhabi office covers cultural institutions and federal clients in addition to the financial mandates.

If a client is thinking about an IPO, a contested transaction, or a board-level reputation file, Brunswick is on the shortlist. For everyday brand work, it is not — and the firm does not pitch for it. The institutional discipline of staying in that lane is part of why the lane stays profitable.
